Bills move to dismiss lawsuit filed by former cheerleaders, release statement

Buffalo (WSYR-TV) - The Buffalo Bills filed for a Motion to Dismiss in connection with the lawsuit filed by former cheerleaders.

In a statement, the organization said, “For decades the Buffalo Jills trademark has been licensed to independent third parties who have assumed the responsibility for the selection, management, training, scheduling and compensation of the cheerleaders. We are aware of public statements and allegations that have surfaced since the start of the recent litigation which attempt to give the impression that our organization employs cheerleaders. Such statements are inaccurate and misleading.”

Five former Buffalo Jills filed the lawsuit accusing team of demeaning treatment and unfair pay.

According to the suit, the former cheerleaders say they earned less than minimum wage.

ABC News reported the Jills were required to take a “jiggle test” every week, and those who failed, in some cases, “were penalized, suspended or dismissed.”
