Cortland County declines SAFE Act pilot program

Citing a lack of support from New York State, Cortland County has become one of three counties to back out of a re-certification pilot program for gun owners.
Cortland (WSYR-TV) – Citing a lack of support from New York State, Cortland County has become one of three counties to back out of a re-certification pilot program for gun owners.

Genesee and Ontario counties’ clerical offices have also backed out of the pilot program.

Clerk’s offices in a total of seven counties were working with state officials to develop a digital database for gun owners.

The Cortland County Clerk's Office indicated there had been a lack of communication with the state regarding the program's implementation.

As part of the SAFE Act, pistol permit holders are required to update their permits by 2018.
