(WSYR-TV) – The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office has arrested two people in the case of two Amish girls who were allegedly abducted from a home in the town of Oswegatchie.

Stephen Howells II, 39, and his girlfriend Nicole Vaisey, 25, of County Route 21, Hermon, have been charged with first-degree kidnapping.

If convicted they could face a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

In a release, the Sheriff's Office said that the couple's arrest has "no doubt saved young children from future abuse at the hands of these two."

Sheriff Kevin Wells said they identified the house through a combination of police work and cooperation from the victims.

Wells says the pair may face additional charges - including Federal charges - in connection with the incident.

He says two cars - one red and one white - have been towed from the scene on Marshville Road.

Wells says investigators were looking for the two cars in connection with the case.

The Sheriff says they developed a lead on the house on Marshville Road on Friday.

The Sheriff's Office has confirmed that a press conference to address the investigation will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
