Tyre (WSYR-TV) – State Police have identified an Oswego woman killed in a crash on the Thruway in the Seneca County town of Tyre on Thursday.

Troopers say 29-year-old Joel Sitts of Utica was traveling west on I-90 between the Weedsport and Waterloo exits at about 10 a.m. when he rear-ended a car stopped due to traffic.

State Police say the rear-ended vehicle was occupied by driver Clifford Wilder, 72, and passenger Cathie Garrison, 62, both of Oswego.

Garrison was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilder was airlifted to Upstate Medical Hospital with serious injuries. He is currently listed in good condition.

The force of the crash pushed Wilder’s car into another vehicle driven by a Liverpool man. He did not sustain any injuries.

Sitts, who was not injured in the crash, has been charged with Unsafe Speed and Following Too Closely.

The westbound lanes were closed immediately after the crash, but the Thruway Authority announced at about 2 p.m. that they had reopened.
