Utica (WSYR-TV) - A Utica man was sentenced today after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of his infant son, Levon Wameling.

Jevon Wameling was sentenced to 7.5 to 15 years in prison.

Wameling was set to be sentenced back in January, but the date was postponed because of a scheduling conflict for the judge.

Wameling admitted his son Levon suffered a head injury and he failed to provide the child medical treatment.

He also admitted that when he found the boy dead, he put the infant's body in the Mohawk River instead of calling 911.

The District Attorney's Office said Wameling’s November plea was the culmination of a five-month homicide investigation that began when Wameling reported his son missing in June.

He initially told investigators that Levon had disappeared from his porch two weeks earlier on May 29.
