Miner and Mahoney host annual fireside chat at Palace Theater

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Two of the biggest names in Syracuse politics were side-by-side once again hosting a fireside chat.

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner (D) and Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney (R) held their annual event at the Palace Theater.

Both provided a brief update on the state of the city or county before taking questions from the audience.

The pair even answered questions the perceived tension that occurs when they have a difference of opinions.

"Both of us are here because we want to make Central New York a better place,” Mahoney said. “I committed years ago on the campaign trail, that out of respect for the voters, I will work with whomever you put in place while I'm here and we will work together."

"Believe me, if I went through my life saying I'm only going to have relationships with people that I agree with 100 percent of the time I would have no relationships,” Miner said. “I think it's really about respecting the fact that people don't always have to agree on everything and understanding that there are grounds and reasons to disagree and that's what happens in a democracy."
