Sheriff: Mother, infant among 4 killed in Smithfield tornado

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has identified four people who were killed during a tornado in the town of Smithfield Tuesday night.

Smithfield (WSYR-TV) – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has identified four people who were killed during a tornado in the town of Smithfield Tuesday night.

According to the Sheriff’s Office the following people were killed:

- Kimberly Hilliard, 35
- Paris Newman, 4 months old
- Virginia Warner, 70
- Arnie Allen, 53

Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley said that Hilliard is the mother of the 4-month-old killed in the storm.

Riley said the force of the storm was such that it lifted one home approximately 150 yards before it crashed onto another home.

Five buildings - four homes and a barn - were destroyed in Madison County on Tuesday, according to the county sheriff's office.

The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down.

More details about the tornado - including its path - are still being determined, the National Weather Service says.

60 people were involved in a search effort, according to the sheriff. 

The homes were located on Goff Road in Smithfield.

The storm swept through the area around 7:14 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the sheriff.

Several other homes were damaged.

The area is located about 12 miles northeast of Cazenovia.
