Sheriff's Office: Mom found unresponsive in her car with needle in her arm and children in the backseat

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A woman is in custody after the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office said she was found unresponsive in her car with a needle in her arm, heroin in her possession, and her two young children in the back seat.

At around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, deputies heard a steady car horn blaring in the area of South Geddes Street and Shonnard Street in Syracuse.

Deputies found 23-year-old Kristen Carno, of Cazenovia, unresponsive in her car in the parking lot of Kelly's Mobile Gas Station on South Geddes Street.

Investigators said Carno had a needle in her arm, was under the influence of heroin, and had several bags of heroin in her possession.

Carno's one-year-old child and two-year-old child were in the back seat. They were not hurt and are in the care of relatives.

Carno is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, possession of a hypodermic needle, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

All of the charges are misdemeanors.

Carno is being held at the Justice Center awaiting her arraignment in City of Syracuse Court.
