Syracuse Police recover more than 500 bags of heroin in drug investigation

Syracuse Police say they recovered more than 500 bags of heroin when they searched a home on Bellevue Avenue in the city.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police say they recovered more than 500 bags of heroin when they searched a home on Bellevue Avenue in the city.

Police say the search was part of their ongoing campaign to combat a recent spike in heroin abuse in the city.

Last Friday, police reported five heroin overdoses in 24 hours – including one that took the life of a woman.

Police charged 32-year-old Jerry Goodwin of 607 1/2 Bellevue with:
  • Two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a felony
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a felony
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor
Along with 513 bags of heroin, police say they found 35 bags of cocaine and 14.4 grams of marijuana.

Goodwin was arraigned in Syracuse City Court and taken back to jail on Friday.
