Syracuse (WSYR-TV ) – The US has scrapped plans to house migrant children from several Central American cities in American cities, including Syracuse.

The US Department of Health and Human services confirmed the news for the city of Syracuse.

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner put the city at the center of the controversial move when she wrote a letter to President Barack Obama offering facilities to the children, who are fleeing violence in several countries.

Three buildings at the Franciscan Campus on Court Street, near Grant Boulevard, were being considered for housing the children.

Syracuse Diocese Bishop Robert Cunningham openly supported the move.
