Snow plow operators busy during Saturday's storm

DeWitt (WSYR-TV) -- While most people are encouraged to stay inside during the storm, it's a different story for plow operators. They have been working around the clock to keep the roads safe. Christopher Patane is a snowplow operator for OnSite Companies and says he has a busy night ahead.

"I'm gonna be pushing lots, cleaning lanes, making sure everyone can get in okay, just keep running back and fourth from the time snow begins until it ends and everyone is safe," said Patane.

While most people are worried about getting their drive-way plowed, OnSite is responsible for keeping commercial businesses clean, like this Wegmans in DeWitt. They also plow the large lots at Destiny USA and all the Wal-Marts in Onondaga County.

"Unfortunately in our climate, the busiest season of the year is our winter season with Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Christmas shopping so we have to assure all spaces they have our available," said Angelo Emmi, Vice President of OnSite Companies.

"If we don't clear the lots properly, all the patrons here are at risk to slip and fall. That's what we're here to prevent," said Patane.

If you have to hit the roads in the storm, snow-plow operators are asking you to completely brush off your car, especially the roof, so built-up snow doesn't create any blind spots on your vehicle, or someone else's.
