State of the State issues Central New Yorkers care about

Governor Andrew Cuomo delivered his State of the State address on Wednesday afternoon, touching on numerous topics that concern Central New Yorkers.
Albany (WSYR-TV) - Governor Andrew Cuomo delivered his State of the State address on Wednesday afternoon, touching on numerous topics that concern Central New Yorkers.

- The governor said he hopes to provide tax relief by:
  • Placing a freeze on property taxes
  • Creating a property tax “circuit breaker” based on ability to pay
  • Providing tax relief for renters facing significant housing burdens
  • Providing tax relief in an effort to boost manufacturing by eliminating corporate tax in Upstate New York
  • Proposing an increase on New York State’s exemption threshold for estate taxes
- Cuomo said he hopes to attract more visitors to Upstate New York by:
  • Proposing an outdoors initiative to create 50 new access projects that connect hunters, anglers, bird watchers and other outdoor enthusiasts to State-owned lands.
  • Bring destination resorts to Upstate New York
- In an effort to boost the Upstate New York economy, Gov. Cuomo said he wants to hold a summit that encourages the connection between the Upstate agriculture industry and consumers and markets located downstate.

- Gov. Cuomo said he wishes to improve access to the North Country. He said New York State will study the possibility of better connecting I-81 in Watertown to I-87 in Champlain.

- The governor formally announced the state will launch a medical marijuana program that will allow 20 hospitals in New York State to provide medical marijuana to patients.

- For frequent flyers of Hancock International Airport, the governor’s proposal of modernizing JFK and LaGuardia airports could make connecting flights smoother.
