Lyme (WSYR-TV) - A 3-year-old girl that was the victim of an assault back in 2011 was found dead Monday morning.

State Police in Watertown say Victoria Kathryn Nicole Marchyotti was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at a home on Empie Road in the town of Lyme.

Her adoptive parents called 911, Troopers said.

Victoria’s birth name was Kate Cawvey, and she was the victim of an assault in 2011 in which she suffered a traumatic brain injury.

In March of 2012, Kelly Keegan was found guilty of Assault in the 1st and 2nd Degree and sentenced to 25 years in prison for assaulting the child while baby-sitting her at a home just outside of Three Mile Bay.

According to the Watertown Daily Times, Keegan was dating the child’s mother Taylor Glass on March 18, 2011, when he was accused of shaking, slamming or throwing the infant and hitting her head on a hard surface, causing head trauma and injuries to both ears.

The investigation into the child's death is ongoing and State Police say if any criminal liability is developed that relates to the 2011 assault, it will be addressed accordingly.
