Syracuse Police say nurse had sexual contact with underage patient at Golisano Children’s Hospital

Syracuse Police have arrested a nurse who they say had sexual contact with an underage patient at Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police have arrested a nurse who they say had sexual contact with an underage patient at Golisano Children’s Hospital.

According to police, 24-year-old Joseph Carelli of Marcellus had sexual contact with the 16-year-old girl on multiple occasions in October and November.

Police do not believe – at this point in their investigation – that any other victims were involved.

They say Carelli was suspended from work and barred from the hospital shortly after police talked to the victim and reported their allegations to the administration.

He was charged with:

• Four counts of criminal sex act in the third degree, a class E felony
• Sex abuse in the third degree, a misdemeanor
• Endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree, a misdemeanor

Police explained that the criminal sex act charges stem from both the age of the victim and the fact that Carelli is a health care worker.

Syracuse Police declined to issue a picture of Carelli.

Bail has been set at $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.

Police are still investigating the matter.

Anyone with information that could aid police in their investigation should contact the Syracuse Police Abused Person’s Unit at (315) 435-3016.
