Teenage girl shot at Arapahoe High School in Colorado has died

Police say 17-year-old Claire Davis was shot point-blank with a shotgun by Karl Pierson on December 13 when he walked into the school to target a librarian who kicked him off the debate team.
Colorado (WSYR-TV/CNN) - Claire Davis, the 17-year-old student shot at Arapahoe High School in Colorado on December 13 , has died according to the hospital where she was being treated.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share that a 4:29 p.m. this afternoon, Claire Davis passed away, with her family at her side," Littleton Adventist Hospital said in a statement.

"Despite the best efforts of our physicians and nursing staff, and Claire's fighting spirit, her injuries were too severe and the most advanced medical treatments could not prevent this tragic loss of life. Claire's death is immensely heartbreaking for our entire community, our staff and our families."

Police say Davis was shot point-blank with a shotgun by Karl Pierson when he walked into the school to target a librarian who kicked him off the debate team.

The librarian was not hurt.

Police say Pierson shot and killed himself.

There was no known relationship between the two, authorities said.
