Question: When she learned that a Chinese manufacturer had issued a massive recall of dehumidifiers due to fire concerns, NewsChannel 9 viewer “Nancy” did everything she was asked. Nevertheless, she has not received her refund. What’s The Real Deal?

More than 2 million dehumidifiers made by Gree Electric Appliances sold under 12 different brand names have been recalled because they can overheat, smoke, and catch fire.

NewsChannel 9 initially reported on the recall in September.

When the recall was initially announced mid-September, there had already been 165 incidents reported, including 46 fires and more than $2 million in property damage.

They were sold at Home Depot, K-Mart, Lowe’s, Sam’s Club, and Sears.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission advises you to immediately turn off and unplug the appliance – then contact Gree for a refund. You can also call the CPSC hotline toll free at 1-800-638-2772.

Gree says the refunds should take between two and six weeks.

“Nancy” told NewsChannel 9, however, that she’s been waiting two months.

Gree said they had already approved of Nancy’s refund and scheduled the reimbursement, but they would expedite the reimbursement check.

The check was to be issued on Tuesday and mailed on Wednesday.
