Forecast: Showers return to central New York

Showers continue into Thursday, partly due to Irma

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - - Remnants of Irma provide a few spotty showers possible starting tonight.
- Better chance of scattered showers/storms Thursday, but far from a washout.
- A lingering shower/storm or two possible Friday.
- Weekend looks pretty good and summery for the last official weekend of summer.
- Temperatures finally running above normal over the coming days.

Minor impacts from Irma here:

High pressure will slowly exit the region today and a limited amount of moisture from the remnants of Irma will move northward into the Northeast and CNY starting tonight and continuing into tomorrow.

Best chance of showers will be Thursday:

Come Thursday the center of what’s left from Irma (which won’t be much) will likely pass just south of CNY and the end result will be a slightly better chance of seeing a few scattered showers and storms.

By no means will Thursday be a washout, but keep the umbrella handy throughout the day. One thing we have noticed is that the winds in the lower part of the atmosphere will be very light Thursday.  That means any thunderstorms that do form could bring some locally heavy rain. Still, this heavy rain will pale in comparison to the rain and wind the storm brought to Florida and the Southeast earlier in the week.
Last weekend of summer looks summery!

High pressure should reestablish itself this weekend with a fair amount of sun, quite a bit of humidity and unseasonably warm temperatures, as highs will probably be up around 80! So yes, the last official weekend of summer is looking quite summery! Enjoy!
