KW Fitness in Fayetteville is letting people show support for our nation’s veterans in a simple way: push-ups.
Six years ago, Kevin Webb, owner of KW Fitness started “Push-ups for Veterans” in Binghamton and has brought it to Fayetteville for the second time.
“I didn’t have the opportunity to serve in the military, so this is my way to give back to those who have served,” Webb said. “There’s a number of ways you can participate in Pushups for Veterans. One way is doing push-ups. The push-ups are for 90 seconds. It can be on your toes, it can be on your knees, we have modifications where someone can just do it on a wall. So that way it’s inclusive.”
If you can not participate in the event but would like to help consider making a donation to someone else doing push-ups.
“We rely on donations, we rely on volunteers, so this is a wonderful gift to us,” Bill Smullen, CEO of Clear Path for Veterans, said. “We serve 23 counties, veterans in 23 counties. We will have at least 30,000 that we will touch this year. We have a K-9 program where we train service dogs and partner them with veterans. We have a culinary program. Today we’ll have a canteen which will be a complimentary lunch for some 200 veterans, all eras. We have a wellness program as well. So this fits in very well.”
The gym in Fayetteville has a goal 5,000 push-ups and hopes to raise $4,000. The event is open to the public at any age, and it doesn’t matter how your push-ups look.
Pushups for Veterans is happening Saturday, November 9th at 10am inside of KW Fitness located at 401 East Genesee Street in Fayetteville.
