Some of the best authors from around Central New York will be honored on Thursday, November 8th at the CNY Book Awards.
Phil Memmer, Executive Director of the Arts Branch of the YMCA, says 2018 features "the largest number of nominated book we've ever had for the book awards and this is our seventh year . . . but we have 45 books by 44 authors nominated for this years awards."
Georgia Popoff, Workshops Coordinator of the YMCA Downtown Writers Center, mentioned that one of the nominated books "Have Dog, Will Travel" by Stephen Kuusisio is about the author's experiences being blind and when he made the decision to work with a guide dog.
Popoff also added that there are poet nominees as well, and that they represent nominees from eight different counties around CNY.
There are various awards dedicated to children books, fiction, poetry and more Memmer added.
For authors with new works or who will be publishing their work, he also said, "If you are an author or have a book coming out or that has come out within the past couple of months between July 1, 2018 up to June 30, 2019, you're eligible for the awards next year."
The CNY Book Awards will be held at the CNY Philanthropy Center starting at 6:00 p.m. Tickets start at $75 per person and proceeds support the YMCA programs. For more information visit http://www.syracuse.ymca.org/dwccny-book-awards.html.
