“Fiddler on the Roof” which was once known as the longest running Broadway show is back on stage as part of the all-new national tour. And in one short week, the classic musical launches at the Landmark in Syracuse.
Jeffrey Brooks and Olivia Gjurich, two members of the cast, have ties to Central New York. Brooks is a native of Marathon and a SUNY Cortland graduate, while Olivia is a Syracuse University graduate.
“The story takes place in 1905, so it was a much different time” says Jeffrey about working on a production set in the early nineteen hundreds. “It takes place in Russia and it focuses a lot on the communities of Jewish people who were being persecuted and who were being made into refugees and forced out of their homes.”
Jeffrey, who has traveled all over the country, says Central New York “is still one of the most beautiful places in the entire country.”
Olivia says her experience at Syracuse University helped to shape her career.
“It taught me pretty much all that I need to know” she said.
See Jeffrey, Olivia and the rest of the “Fiddler on the Roof” cast when they perform at the Landmark Theatre October 17, 18 and 19 at 7:30pm.
