For seniors in Central New York looking for something to do during the day, the Silver Fox Senior Social Club might be the answer.
“We are a social adult day program” says Member Services Director Kelly Casson. “We’re a place for our members to come and have a safe caring environment. We do a lot of activities. We do physical activities and different cognitive activities. We have sing-a-longs, we have entertainers that come in. We just keep everybody really busy all day.”
Member Marge Willbur joined Kelly on “Bridge Street” and spoke highly of the program. “It gets me out of my easy chair doing something with my brain and my muscles” says Willbur. “I like the chair exercises and of course we all love lunch. It’s always good food.”
Casson says the food is so good, in part because Silver Fox Senior Social Club has its own on-site chef and all meals from scratch. But more than that, it’s allowing everyone to be involved with the cooking. “A lot of our members come in earlier in the morning and they actually like to help peel potatoes, chop vegetables, cut strawberries, prepare salads, so it’s a real team effort to get that going every day.”
While the meals and all the activities are great for the senior members, the program also helps those that are caregivers to members, giving them the much-needed time they need for themselves.
“Even to just sit and ready a book and not worry about what anyone else is doing and know that you still have part of your life where you can have your social life and your things but then your family has their own social life” says Casson.
Silver Fox Senior Social Club has two locations in Central New York: 22 East Genesee Street in Baldwinsville and 7248 Highbridge Road in Fayetteville. Both are open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 6pm.
