When Antibiotics are Necessary

As Seen On

The winter months and colder day often bring on a slew of coughs and colds but before you make a run for the prescription meds, Dr. LouAnne Giangreco of Five Star Urgent Care says that waiting it out may be the best medicine yet.

Nearly 30 percent of antibiotics written to patients are unnecessary so what should someone do?  Rest, hydration and having a cool mist humidifier can help anyone overcome some of the most common viruses.

Patients often talk about using or being prescribed a z-pack, also known as Zithromax, but Dr. Giangreco says that sometimes this type of antibiotic isn’t what your body needs. It can also increase your risk of building up a resistance to the drug.

Each illness is different and every person is different which means that if you have any concerns regarding your health, you should always seek treatment and direct your questions to your doctor.
