Keeping our pets happy, healthy and fed is an important part of caring for them, but that can be difficult for some pet owners, especially those who are disabled or advancing in age.
The Kia Foundation is Central New York’s only pet meal delivery program and they’re helping pets and their owners who need it most, Founder Samuel Washington says.
“We have the only pet mail delivery program in Onondaga County where we deliver pet food and supplies to elderly pet owners, home bound pet owners and veteran pet owners as well,” he adds.
The idea started from a multitude of places, Director Kate Berry says.
“It was really about finding a gap and a need in the community and then we just bridged it,” she says.
It’s also in honor of Washington’s family dog who lived to be nearly 20 years old. His hope is to use Kia’s story and his own experience growing up with a dog, as a way to teach others about the beauty of having a pet. The book is also a fundraising opportunity for the organization.
On Saturday, November 30, The Kia Foundation will host a book signing on the first level of Destiny USA from 12 to 4pm. Guests are invited to attend the event, learn more about the organization and how they can help.
