Breast augmentation is a popular and common procedure but many may have questions regarding the implants and the process. Dr. Gregory Baum and Dr. Anthony Deboni from CNY Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery explain the differences in implants.
Implants come in several broad categories: round or anatomic, saline or silicone, and smooth or textured. Saline is a liquid that surgeons put into an implant once it has been placed. Silicone is a prefilled implant from the manufacturer. A textured implant is designed to keep the implant in place however a smooth implant is more popular and may be more realistic. A consultation will provide patients with trial sizes and the different types of implants to see what fits best.
