Did you know one in two kids under the age of 5 in Syracuse lives in poverty? For that reason alone, one local organization is working to help families and children in one important way.
September 24 through September 30 is Diaper Awareness Week and the CNY Diaper Bank is working to help give families and babies in particular, diapers.
In celebration of diaper awareness week, the CNY Diaper Bank will help to distribute diapers to families in need, and this week they need your help.
Michela Hugo, CNY Diaper Bank Founder, realized there were banks all over the country, but not one in Syracuse. Her interest in helping to bring diapers to families and children who need them led her to create a diaper bank here in Central New York, she said. Since opening the diaper bank, she, along with her team of volunteers, has delivered more than 700 diapers.
Large companies are also showing their support. Huggies offered to donate diapers along with a Canadian diaper company, Hugo said. Other businesses like The Salvation Army, Syracuse Northeast Community Center and Liberty POST all help to distribute diapers.
