It is important to empower women and girls with the knowledge needed in everyday survival and when in crisis. By taking a women’s self defense class, you just might surprise yourself with what you are capable of doing, and may find a whole new strength and outlook that will improve your life.

If you’re interested in learning some valuable techniques, Tearney’s Martial Arts in Camillus will be hosting a women’s self defense fundraiser this Saturday at 11:00am. The class won’t only benefit those learning but also the Joseph’s House, a shelter for women who are pregnant and in need of shelter and assistance during and after their pregnancy.

Kitty Spinelli is one of the Founders of Joseph’s House and shares the importance of women’s self defense. She says “lets do something for women, about women” and tells us how Joseph’s House is busier than ever. “We’ve moved from a house to a home family and now a community… It’s a blessed environment to work in.”

This women’s self defense class will be taught by some talented women and will teach basic, effective techniques and discuss general safety, particularly on college campuses. “Don’t wait till the last minute when you find yourself in a compromising situation,” Grand Master Black Belt Greg Tearney says, “We plan on educating people on the stages of self defense.”

Tearney’s Martial Arts is located at 3730 Milton Ave. in the Home Depot Plaza in Camillus. No experience is necessary for you to partake in this class, but space is limited so make sure to reserve your spot by registering today! The cost of the class is $25 and you can register by calling (315)-487-8722 or by texting ‘TMA#DEFENSE’ to 267-86.
