For eight years, Dr. Joan Laura at Eastwood Dental has given back to military veterans. The tradition isn’t stopping anytime soon.
Dr. Laura is offering veterans free dental treatment on Veterans Day. She does this in honor of her family. Her father fought in the Korean War, and her grandfather fought in World War I.
“My father was a dentist, and he was a dentist in the Korean War. He practiced for 50 years right in the building, right where I am. I took over his practice,” Dr. Laura said. “My grandfather actually lied about his age. He was only 17 and he had to be 18 back then and he lied about his age because he really wanted to serve his country and he did in World War I.”
She has treated 272 veterans to-date, donating over $45,000 of dental care.
“The response is very heartfelt. To me, it’s wonderful; they’re so appreciative. I remember, one person said to me ‘Dr. Laura, I will remember you for the rest of my life.’”
A cleaning, filling, or extraction; it’s all free for veterans in her walk-in clinic on Veterans Day. Simply bring proof of military status, and be helped to free dental care.
Eastwood Dental Excellence is located at 2326 James St. in Syracuse. On veterans day they will be open from 7am until 3pm. Dr. Laura suggests getting there early as in years pasts patients have waited for up to two hours.
