“Handmade” is taken up a notch when it comes to ceramics, as the art form requires patient and steady hands to both sculpt the clay and paint intricate designs once the pieces have been fired in the kiln.
To showcase the ceramic talents of local artists, the Syracuse Ceramics Guild is hosting a weekend craft fair at the Stone Quarry Art Park in Cazenovia.
The fair will include all sorts of ceramic pieces for show and for sale, from vases and bowls to necklaces and earrings. Kids who attend will get to visit Clay Town, an area filled with clay and art supplies for children to make their own craft and take it home with them for free.
Another nice feature to ceramic pieces, other than their aesthetic appeal, is that most are dishwasher and oven safe so you’re free to cook with and clean them as you would any other kitchen utensil.
The Pottery Fair takes place August 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and August 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5. You can learn more by visiting SyracuseCeramicGuild.com.
