As early as the 1800s, Syracuse made a name for itself in the brewing industry. “Congress Beer” was a signature ale sold at Onondaga’s very own Haberle Brewing Company. Now many years later, the Onondaga Historical Association along with Willow Rock Brewing Company are teaming up for a comeback. The brew that was once made famous by the brewers who created it, will once again be brought to life for Onondaga County residents to taste.
Working with the secret recipe of Congress Beer, Brewer Rockney Roberts is bringing forward a beer that can really bridge the generations, he said, and create a taste that is approachable for those who may remember Congress and those who may not remember.
Roberts is working with the original ingredients and updating the recipe to fit today’s standards, he said. Their goal is to make a Congress beer that’s true to its spirit. Residents will be able to enjoy Congress Beer once again this August.
