Being an upstanding citizen has never sounded so good! Two indisputable legends of country music, Lee Greenwood and Crystal Gayle, will perform a benefit concert at Vernon Downs Casino.
Lee Greenwood is known for “God Bless the USA”, a song he won CMA Song of the Year for in 1985. Greenwood has also won a Grammy for Top Male Vocal Performance in 1985 for the song “IOU” as well as other prestigious accolades throughout the years.
Crystal Gayle’s classics “Wrong Road Again” and “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” have won her a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1978. Before her winning streak of three consecutive Academy of Country Music Awards (1975–77) and then two more in 1979 and 2016, Gayle saw an early start of country croonin’ when she performed background vocals for her siblings, most notably her sister Loretta Lynn.
The price of admission is a low $15. “But what’s great about that $15,” explains the Food Bank of CNY’s chief development officer Lynn Hy, “is that full $15 comes to support the Food Bank.” And the charity doesn’t end there, every single donation will be personally doubled by the owner of Vernon Downs, Mr. Jeff Gural. With this added generosity, each ticket will end up provided 90 meals to those who have food insecurities.
Last year, the Food Bank of CNY distributed 15.6 million pounds of food—that’s over 13 million meals.
