On Screen With Brian Miller 5.2.17

Bridge Street

This morning Movie Guy Brian Miller stopped by to review a prequel series and a new Netflix movie.

Bates Motel, the prequel to the legendary thriller film Psycho just finished its run on A&E and is now available on Netflix. The five seasons follow the journey of a teenage Norman Bates’ and how his psyche deteriorates. Freddie Highmore plays the young Norman Bates with SU Alum Vera Farmiga playing his mother, Norma Louise Bates. Miller says this show lends its success to actor and actress who play its leading characters Norman and Norma Bates. He says with the character development, you see the characters as actual people. Adding that you begin to care about them and making it hard to know where the story is going to go even if you’re familiar with Psycho.  He gives the series 4 out of 5 stars.

Next, Miller reviewed Adam Sandler’s new Netflix movie, Sandy Wexler. The movie takes place in the 90s and follows the life of a devoted talent manager, Sandy Wexler. Sandler’s character represents eccentric clients who are on the outside of show business. When Sandler’s character meets his new client, Courtney Clarke, he falls in love. The movie takes place over the course of ten years and follows the love story of the two star-crossed lovers. Miller says this movie did not have the same belly laughs as Sandler’s early films. He says the funniest part about the movie is the cameos which include Jimmy Kimmel, Judd Apatow and more.  He ultimately determined that Sandler’s character is not likeable and the most annoying character on screen. Miller really wanted to like the movie, but gave it 2 out of 5 stars.
