A Type 1 diabetes community in Oswego County wants to bring people together to provide, support, and educate those living with or caring for someone who has been diagnosed with the disease.
Julie Chetney and Jennifer Arena both have children with Type 1 diabetes and know all too well how important community support can be when it comes to raising children living with the Type 1 Diabetes.
“We started something bigger to reach out to the whole county because there were people that didn’t know and didn’t have a connection,” said Jennifer.
The group’s Facebook page has been a quick and easy way to ask questions to others who have gone through similar experiences.
“It’s really simple for people to talk about Type 1 diabetes in the medical profession, but it’s very different to talk to someone who’s lived through having a child go through the middle of the night and have the challenges of Type 1 diabetes all night long,” said Julie.
The organization will host its first forum on November 6th. There will be two panels at the forum moderated by both Julie and Jennifer.
