High school girls from across the region are coming together for some fun this week at Le Moyne College to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
AT&T, CNY STEM Hub, Le Moyne College, and Partners for Education & Business Inc. have partnered to create the region’s first STEM program specifically for high school girls, to encourage young women to enter the field of technology, an industry that is still very much male dominant.
Thirty girls from local high schools were hand picked for the opportunity, to gain STEM skills and experiences. The program also encourages the high schoolers ranging in age from grades nine through twelve, to follow a STEM career path.
A combination of great instructors, role models and students that are hands on and eager to learn are some of the reasons why the program has already seen success in Central New York. This year, fifty students applied for just thirty spots available.
This summer STEM camp started July 24 and continues through Saturday, July 29.
