Wing-A-Lings Brings the Flavor

Bridge Street

There are nearly thirty barbecue teams signed up to compete at this coming weekend’s inaugural Rotary Ribs Rhythm & Blues Festival in Auburn. One of the participating competitors in the Kansas City Style Barbeque contest is Wing-A-Lings. Owner Shanin Stoddard breaks down how the competition goes and what the judges look for.

When turning in a barbecue box for a competition, competitors will turn in multiple meats. The competitors are judged on three factors to determine a winner; taste, tenderness and appearance. While Stoddard hasn’t won just yet, he’s been on the brink and placed at national competitions.

Stoddard notes that he owes much of his success to his award-winning dry rubs. The one that was won awards on it’s own and that he uses on his chicken is the Chicken Wing Rub. Wing-A-Lings offers a variety of rubs for all types of barbecue. Their best seller is actually their steak rub and they have specialized rubs for all meats including duck, turkey, and venison.
