4th Annual Festival Of Nations At C-NS High School

Community

Eighth grade French class sparked an idea for James Corl. He wanted a way to bring the community together to learn more about different cultures of the world. He approached an advisor with the idea and started The Festival of Nations, featuring 12 countries. Four years later, the festival has grown to showcase over 25 countries. “This year over half [of the booths] will be represented by people from that country,” says organizer, James Corl, excitedly.

“It’s great. I feel like everyone should know that people are different and from different cultures,” says Alianai Cruz, C-NS Junior representing Cuba for the festival. Cruz came to America with her parents when she was 2-years-old. Her booth will feature pastries, facts about Cuba and tourist attractions.

“I just hope to share, especially the food, because the food is definitely the best part, a little bit of just what it is like to be Indian because there’s a lot culturally to being Indian,” says Pooja Patel, a C-NS Junior who’s father is from India along with her maternal grandparents.

Food samples, information booths and dance groups are all featured to showcase the different cultures represented. The C-NS Festival of Nations is Thursday, March 7th at 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Cicero North-Syracuse High School. It is free and open to the public.
