A 5K Run Walk will honor a life gone too soon and celebrate the lives of others lost to drunk driving.
Finishing for Summer began as a way for Summer Rupert- Wozniczka’s family to remember her life after she was tragically killed by a drunk driver while on a morning run in 2014. The family collectively wanted to run in honor of the last run that Summer wasn’t able to finish, her sister Davelyn Rupert said.
This is the second year that the run will take place in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving. “We have a ton of donations, 50/50s, raffles, pizza and entertainment in addition to the race,” Davelyn said.
New this year, families who have suffered loss due to drunk driving are also invited to attend. It’s also a way to keep her memory alive and raise money for the New York State Chapter of M.A.D.D., Davelyn added.
The 5K kicks off on Saturday, September 15th, at the Bayview Tent Area in Willow Bay at Onondaga Lake Park. Registration begins at 12 p.m. and the race starts at 1. Anyone interested in participating can sign up ahead of time or on the day of the race.
