Change can be hard and sometimes even the thought of making a change is the hardest part. But Certified Personal Organizer Deb Cabral says that change is possible and sometimes all it takes is one small step.
"Small changes over time yield big results, so we've got to make sure that we are committed to the change and that we're taking those small steps," she said.
Deb adds that there are three steps to take when it comes to making a change and they can make all the difference regardless of your circumstance. Her first order of business is to change your state of mind.
"We always want to do something better whether it's in our business or our personal life, and knowing that to begin with can kick start you on your way," she adds.
Whether we realize it or not, sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. Our negative thoughts crush our motivation to move forward. If we believe our negative self-talk, some days we wouldn’t even get out bed. The quickest ways to change your state of mind is to start a gratitude journal. Write down every day the things you are grateful for and you’ll see a big difference in how you think and feel.
Being committed to making small changes can also be key to any shift you want to make. Deb says to determine what is not working in your life and make some consistent, minor changes.
"In your world if there are things that are working, don't change them but if it's not working then figure out how you can make a change to better your life," she adds.
And finally, one key way to stay on track is to go easy on yourself. Self-sabotage can be one of the hardest habits to break, mainly because many times we aren't aware that we're doing it. Deb says when we subconsciously feel we are not worthy; our internal thoughts can cause us to behave in a way that brings us sadness. Accepting who you are and where you are right now, is a gift you can give yourself to help you move forward in a positive direction and make the changes you desire.
