Central New York’s First All-Girl Baseball Team Prepares for Home Opener

New York State’s first all-girl baseball team is set to have their first home opener at Shove Park in Camillus.

Sarah and Katie Domin, Co-Founders of the Upstate New York Boomers, started the team to give girls in there area an opportunity to experience baseball.

“I played in an all girls’ baseball tournament in New Jersey, and I played for the Pawtucket team called the Pawtucket Slaterettes and I loved it,” Sarah said.  “It was my first girls team ever and I didn’t want to be the only one to feel that experience” she added.

Sarah said that she sent flyers to girls in the elementary schools in the West Genesee district and used social media to spread the word on the new all-girls baseball team.

Katie Domin, Sarah’s sister and co-founder, enjoys the friendships she’s developed through the bond that the team shares.

“You get to have a bunch of friends to play with,” said Katie.

The Boomers have a roster of girls from all over the Central New York area with hopes of other all-girls team being developed.

Though Sarah and Katie would like there to be other all-girl baseball teams, gender is not a concern with who they play.

“I want teams that we can play against and it doesn’t matter the gender, it’s just we get to play, and we get to learn the game.”

The boomers will kick off their season on Sunday, June 9th, at 5:45pm at Shove park in Camillus, N.Y.
