Baldwinsville Native Marine Corporal Kyle Schneider made the ultimate sacrifice in serving the United States and together with family and friends; the Central New York Community is invited to carry on the legacy of his name at a run/walk in his honor.
The hometown hero is honored and remembered each year and friends like Andrew Summa say carrying on his legacy helps them to have purpose in sharing his story.
“Kyle was strong willed and wasn’t afraid of anything and always had this energy that he brought with him into the room,” Andrew said. “We miss him a lot but at the same time, the run and the foundation has helped us a lot with purpose and guidance.”
Volunteer Coordinator Ellen Brunet will also be on hand at the event and says it’s a fun family friendly day with a mission and purpose to remember someone who is very near to the Baldwinsville community. The 5K run/walk is open to participants of all ages. Children are also invited to participate in a fun run planned. Kyle’s parents will also be at the event, Ellen said.
For friends like Andrew, the event is more than just an honorary day but also a way to continue to share the story of his friend, whose life was cut too short.
“I think the most important part to this is that it continues his legacy and continues his name,” Andrew said.
The Corporal Kyle Schneider Honor and Remembrance Run/Walk kicks off on Saturday, May 18th at the Van Buren Park in Baldwinsville. Sign in for the event starts at 7am and the run/walk kicks off at 8:30am. Kids run for free at 7:45am. To register and learn more visit CplKyleSchneider.com.
