The advancement of technology and even the internet has afforded so many with opportunity. It’s also allowed for millions to share stories and photos via social media. However, too much of a good thing may not always be such a great thing.
America’s Marriage Coach, Dr. Jacquie says that social media can be great for capturing memories and keeping in touch with loved ones but it can also pose to be a challenge in other ways. Dating is a great example of this and she says that there are ways to get out of a rut when it comes to relationships and social media.
“It’s good in some ways and bad in others so we want to be knoweldgeable in how we use it,” she said. She advises people who are dating to go ahead and use social media to initially make that connection but once that’s done, she says it’s important to get off of your phone and get to know the person you’re standing in front of.
Dr. Jacquie says that it’s important to make a connection with someone and be able to be in the moment with someone as opposed to trying to capture each and every moment ‘on-screen.’ Getting away from technology can make long-lasting impacts on any relationship, she added.
“I really want to encourage people to get back to the art of knowing,” she said. “Getting to know who you are and what your interests are. And when you do this face to face then I get to see you react in a real environment,” she added.
These simple conversations and interactions can really give insight into the person you’re with and help to create long lasting relationships, she added.
