October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, but you don’t need to wait until October to take action or have a breast exam. Free mammograms are available all year long for uninsured women between the ages of 40-64.
Onondaga County Public Health Educator Emily Young says the health department does provide free mammograms for uninsured women as a way to offer preventative care and early detection.
“The program covers women ages 40 to 64. If younger women are uninsured or have other insurance barriers and they have a symptom, then the program can help them out as well” Young said.
The county believes it is very important for the health department to have screenings for all women and to improve treatment within the county.
