You won’t hear typical polka music coming from Fritz’s Polka Band. For the past 40 years the Sammy Hall of Fame group has infused polka music with country, rock and even blues.
Bandleader, Fritz Scherz, who plays accordion, said, “We like to be different. You know, because I’ve always said, what good is it if you go to a festival and say they have 10 bands and they all sound the same.”
Additional band members include Gabe Caccaro on bass, Frank Nelson on guitar and Mike Fariano on drums.
Fritz’s Polka band does perform traditional polka music and have played with polka kings of the United States and Canada.
They were the first polka band to play at a Woodstock Festival, back in 1999 and their music has even been featured on the legendary television show, “Breaking Bad”.
The band was nominated for another Sammy Award this year in the Best Other Style category.
The Sammy Awards are Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Palace Theatre. The Hall of Fame Ceremony is the night before, upstairs at Dinosaur BBQ.
