Nearly three years ago, former teacher and then new mom Kelly Vincencitini had a dream to create early childhood programs for kids within Onondaga County. Her own search for a program for her first daughter sparked an idea.
Kelly’s goal was to have a safe space for kids to learn sensory and dramatic play, reading, singing and so much more. Her dream came true following the birth of her second daughter and support from family and friends to create something right here in Central New York.
“I felt like during those first five years of life, kids should be completely playing with their friends and socialiazing but I think it’s hard to find that,” she said.
Her initital ideas began to evolve and grow from her thoughts to a program for children and families within the area. And from that idea, Play2Learn was born. Play2Learn offers early childhood porgramming from birth through children ages five.
Children are immersed in variations of play that have themes and help them with sensory and fine motor skills, concepts and vocabulary too. Sensory bins are a weekly component of the each class and she says they’re a great way for children to learn and have fun too.
“They are a way for your child’s brain to grow,” she adds. “When you think of sensory play and right here in the last twenty minutes, you’ve been watching them socialize, share materials, take turns, scoop, pour and even use their own coordination too.”
Sorting, colors and cognitive skills are all part of the classes and they’re all interactive with children, their parents and other families, Kelly said. “This is a time where you come with your little one during the weekday or the weekend and you can share something.”
Play2Learn’s Summer registration is now open for children and their caregivers. The class runs for 8 weeks every Wednesday in July. The program happens at Drakes Landing Park in Baldwinsville and is $65 per session.
“We facilitate a lot of purposeful play at our classes,” Kelly adds. “…And we’re really just trying to grow their minds because those first five years of life are so important.”
