A company of wildly colorful and lovable women will gather at ‘Truvy’s Beauty Salon’ beginning Thursday, September 20 at the Redhouse At City Center.
It’s where all the ladies who are anybody go to get their hair done and it’s also the central location for much of Robert Harling’s play “Steel Magnolias.”
Actress Marguerite Mitchell plays the role of “Shelby” and said that part of the play’s appeal for the Redhouse’s latest season was the relationship of each woman from a woman’s point of view. “We talked about this as part of the rehearsal process and how it’s a true depiction of women absent of the male gaze,” she said.
The play is dubbed as a comedy with both laugh out loud moments and some heartfelt moments too. Audience members will laugh and cry and laugh again, both women said. And the play will hold true to it’s original time period, taking the story back to the 1980s.
“Steel Magnolias” at the Redhouse at City Center runs from September 20 through September 30th. Showtimes are Thursdays at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays.
