One local man is doing great things by supplying sporting equipment to kids in need in Onondaga County and beyond.
Youth S’portstock founder Samuel Dancil was inspired by a group of Puerto Rican kids while on a trip to rebuild after devastating storms hit Puerto Rico. The kids were playing basketball with a soccer ball. Seeing this Dancil was reminded of when he used to play with makeshift sports equipment as a kid.
Upon promising these kids that he would get them basketballs to play with, Dancil got to work on a campaign to raise money for sporting equipment and shipping costs.
Despite accumulating $1,300 worth of sporting goods for kids in this village, the shipping costs to Puerto Rico were upwards of $3,800. From there, Dancil turned to Facebook to network with locals to get the kids the equipment.
After a shift to become a more local presence in Central New Y ork, S’portstock has grown into a successful effort to provide kids with much needed sporting equipment through donations and volunteering.
S’portstock 2019 is a benefit to fund the program. It will take place at Sharky’s Sports Bar on June 1st from 4-9:30pm. They will be accepting donations starting at $10 or any sporting good item. Children under the age of 13, veterans and seniors are free.
