The Syracuse Mets Are Getting Ready For Their First Season In CNY

Fans from all over New York State came to NBT Bank Stadium Saturday, March 2nd, for Syracuse Mets’ open house. In years past, open houses have drawn crowds of several hundred but this year the crowds were about 900 people. “Mets fans are constantly surprising me. I knew that this whole change was going to be awesome and great. I did not expect the level of what’s happening…The Met effect that is happening here in Syracuse,“ says Jason Smorl, Syracuse Mets General Manager. The “Met Effect” has led to an increase in season ticket sales and merchandise.

This year’s focus for NBT Bank stadium will be about better service. They’ll be adding more locations for patrons to buy concessions, as well as limiting the number of hotdogs purchased per person per serving.

More special events and special days have been added to the calendar, many family-friendly. Announced earlier in the week, The Syracuse Mets will transform into the Syracuse Butter Sculptures as they team up with the New York State Fair. There will be a total of 24 promotional giveaways, 22 fireworks nights, 10 national entertainment acts and more.

As for Tim Tebow, Jason Smorl says he’s “super awesome”. He’s projected to come to Syracuse to play if he’s not called up for the Major Leagues. We’re told he’s very engaging and great to talk to. Smorl says, “If he comes here we’re really going to enjoy the Tim Tebow experience.”

You can meet the Syracuse Mets players and coaches on Tuesday, April 2nd at the Embassy Suites next to Destiny USA from 5:30pm to 8pm. Tickets for the meet and greet go on sale Monday, March 11th at NBT Bank Stadium box office or online at

The home opener is Thursday, April 4th at 2:05pm against the Pawtucket Red Sox. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a trapper hat giveaway, presented by Gannon Pest Control. For more information, tickets and the schedule visit
