The town of Manlius is expanding their Memorial Day celebrations to include family-friendly events all weekend long. One added event is a children’s fishing derby at the swan pond starting at 9am saturday. This is the first time the fishing derby will be held on Memorial Day Weekend. If you’re planning on attending make sure to bring your own poles, although hooks and bobbers will be provided. You do not need a fishing license to participate!
FunFlicks will be kicking off a movie series Sunday night with a 21-foot screen right outside the swan pond at the village amphitheatre. The movie that will be shown is going to be announced Thursday, May 23rd at noon on Facebook. FunFlicks will be screening movies each month from May through August. Tim Bennett urges people to get there early in order to get a good seat. The first 25 people get free popcorn!
The Manlius parade will begin at 11am Monday with a ceremony at the village center to follow. Onondaga County Legislator Kevin Holmquist will be speaking at the ceremony.
Looking ahead the Fourth of July celebration will be a full day of events starting off with a pancake breakfast at 9am. The parade will then follow at 10am. There will be bands, rides, games, and other entertainment.
Wristbands will be for sale for $20, which give you all-day rides or you can pay $3 for each ride. Chicken dinners will be available for $12 and will come with two sides. Fireworks will close out the day’s events beginning at dusk.
Slots are still open for summer playground which starts on July 1st and goes until August 9th. Summer playground offers field games, indoor games, arts and crafts, and field trips.
