Leon Festival kicks off at Onondaga Lake Park

Local News

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Thursday night couldn’t be a better night, weather-wise, to kick off summer break for thousands of kids at the Leon Festival.

Leon is Noel spelled backwards.

The annual event celebrates the halfway mark to the December holiday.

First-time festival goers can expect the park to be buzzing, and not just because there will be a big crowd. Kids can enjoy a “bee happy” area to learn about bees.

The free event features a local talent showcase, activities, inflatable bounce houses, live music and fireworks. Kids can also explore the Hometown Heroes section with police cars and fire trucks.

Things will get started at 5 p.m. on Thursday with a first-time cape and tiara fun run at 6 p.m. Kids are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero or princess. Some short films will be shown on an inflatable screen at 9 p.m. and the night will cap off with a fireworks display at 9:45 p.m.

Parking is free for everyone, but if you’re worried about not getting a spot, free shuttles will run all night from Destiny USA to the Leon Festival.
