52 charged in CNY drug bust, including 30 alleged Bricktown Gang members

Dozens of people are facing criminal charges after a 12-month investigation into drug trafficking – including 30 alleged members of Syracuse’s Bricktown Gang.

The investigation – dubbed Operation Bricktown – was a joint investigation by the Syracuse Police department and the New York State Attorney General’s office.

The Bricktown Gang is among Syracuse’s most notorious criminal organizations.

One member, Saquan Evan, is serving life in prison for the murder of a 20-month-old child, Rashaad Walker Jr.

The incident was a flashpoint in the middle of a season of gang violence in the city.

The child’s father, Rashaad Walker Sr. – a member of a rival gang and Evans’ target in the incident – is also in prison for murder.

A total of 52 people were arrested on Wednesday and Thursday from locations in Onondaga, Oswego, Madison, Cortland, and Monroe counties, as well as the states of Pennsylvania and Wyoming.

Prosecutors say the remainder of those arrested beyond the 30 alleged Bricktown Gang members were drug dealers and users, as well as members of a rival gang.

Along with more than 1,000 envelopes of heroin and two kilograms of cocaine, a 9mm Lorcin handgun recovered during the investigation was allegedly used in some 13 incidents in the city of Syracuse between 2015 and 2016.

In addition, they seized:
• .40 caliber Glock handgun, loaded with a 30-round magazine
• 9mm Sig Sauer handgun, loaded with a 15-round magazine
• .45 caliber Taurus handgun, loaded
• 12-gauge shotgun
• Drug paraphernalia, including scales, packaging and cutting agents
• $3,657
• ecstasy pills and psychedelic mushrooms

In addition to the people facing drug charges, two sets of people were charged with conspiracy to murder their rivals.
