AUBURN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Several officers were sent to the hospital after more than 20 inmates started a fight at Auburn Correctional Facility on May 11th.
The president for the Correction Officers Union says two inmates were being escorted by officers back to their cells but refused to go back inside and attacked, and around 25 other inmates joined in.
Chemical agents were deployed to stop the fight and more staff came to help, who were also attacked.
One officer was knocked unconscious.
In total, eight officers were treated and released from the hospital.
All inmates identified from the attack were put in a special housing unit.
